From the 60s through to the early 90s, Women’s Wear Daily was the only fashion publication to use illustration on a regular basis. A staff position at WWD launched the careers of many famous illustrators including Kenneth Paul Block, Antonio Lopez, Steven Stipleman, Pedro Barrios, Robert Passantino, Glenn Tunstull and Steven Meisel. The artists were given carte blanche which allowed them to develop individual styles that would ultimately redefine the artform. From the revolution of the youth cult to the advent of the cyber age, the transformation of the cultural and political climate is detailed in the essays that introduce each decade . The illustrations that follow the text truly capture the artists’ personal interpretations of fashion with the changing times.
